Running her way through life… 1 husband and 2 kids in tow.

Run For A Reason

The weekend event title has me thinking! We all have a reason. A reason to train, a reason to compete. We all have different reasons to do the things we do every day.

Some people train to fit into their jeans, some to achieve something they thought they never could. Some train harder to attain a PB in their chosen event. while some are turning pro & have to achieve results to do so.

We all have a reason. At the run on the weekend my reason was to help my 10year old run the furtherest she ever had, & finish her first running event. We had 4.5km to run with a goal time of 35mins, & had never run more than 3km. She achieved her goal & got to go home proud of her efforts.

Pride comes in many forms too. Pride in simply crossing that line, or in the Higher Faster Stronger motto of BYL.

Whatever the reason it seems that we all work hard to achieve our goals & continue to find new ones.

The other reason to compete yesterday was to show support to our coach & friend Ray! After all what better thing to do than run with Ray for his Birthday! He can be very proud of all who donned the Break Your Limits tops & ran for their own reason!

I was also intrigued by the motto Act Belong Commit.

Act; We are all held accountable for our actions every day. Whether it be in our chosen training regime or life in general.

Belong; We all belong to Break Your Limits. A group of people sharing a common vision to achieve in sport. A family brought together by Ray!

Commit; If we didn’t commit ourselves we wouldn’t achieve. Our commitments vary & don’t always come off, but without the commitment we would have no goals!

Almost Time!!

Well it’s almost time. The long hard sessions are almost in the past and The Half is looming.

Whilst Paul has been Breaking His Limits by increasing the intensity somewhat to his training. Myself & Sue have been extending our sports knowledge at a Sports training for nurses course.

We feel fully equipped to help the BYL team with all strapping needs.

Paul is trying out my handy work tonight on his patella as the long runs have given him patella tendonitis( I never thought he would suffer an overuse injury) heehee.

Anyway, thought since we have been learning I should pass on some of the basic first aid to you.

When an injury occurs Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation, Referral/ Rehab. I was interested to learn that Anti inflammatories are not recommended as they increase bleeding to the site and prolong healing.

Also compression is deemed as most important so don’t just throw an ice pack on, bandage it on to assist through compression.

If injured don’t HARM yourself. No Heat, Alcohol, Running or Massage( within the first 48-72 hrs increases swelling & bleeding)

For those of you that are only just feeling the strain of the last few weeks but have no injury woes, remember that you can assist in your recovery with ice baths, alternating with warmth(eg spa) & Stretching, both static & dynamic stretches are useful(try attending one of Mara’s yoga classes if you dare).

Anyway keep safe in your journey to Taper, it’s not far away.

See you at Busso. Tx

Dunsborough here we come!!!!

Well the time has arrived to pack the bags and grab the bikes to head Down South on the inaugural Dunsborough Ironman training weekend!

Not only does Raymond offer training sessions & write programmes but also provides a forum for us all to get to know like minded, sport dedicated people. We are so fortunate to have met through Ray some amazing people that we now call friends. This makes Dunsborough even more exciting, training, plus socialising!!!

Bring it on!!!!

Breakfast in a Glass

Thought I would provide 2 Breakfast options in a glass for those of you that are interested in a quick nutritious no fuss brekkie.

1/ 2 raw eggs, rice milk, cocoa, honey.

Blend ingredients together in blender & serve. You can add ice cubes to chill it, if you would like.

2/ 1 to 2 scoops of protein powder ( any flavour you like, we use natural or vanilla flavour), rice milk, psyllium husks, banana, berries of your choice, honey.

Blend & serve.

These are just a guide & you can use any ingredients that you prefer to cater for your taste buds. Some people prefer to add vanilla essence rather than honey.

Just have fun with it!!!

Would love your feedback.

To Marathon or not to Marathon……..

Thank you Ray for giving me this opportunity to keep the troupes amused & informed.

It would seem that on the same day as I received my posting status I was also told that Adelaide Marathon has my name on it! Guess I’m locked in now.

It is shaping up to be another busy year for the Haddleton clan.

Paul is on his way to achieving his first solo Half Ironman, a goal that has taken a few years to get to due to bad genes. The finish will be all the more sweet I’m sure. The family have been briefed on the fact that Dad won’t be around for a few months & will be there to cheer him on at the finish. Although at the moment the Face off is of primary importance!!!! Of course.

I am now committing to Adelaide so will be running to most kids sporting venues etc to fit my training around Pauls. I will definately be attending the HBF run for Rays Birthday, the BYL shirts should dominate that day.

Rhett my youngest, he’s 7 has finally reached the magic age of triathlon competing, he is keen to begin his Triathlon journey in Feb at the Weetbix kids tri.

Emersyn has discovered an aversion to jellyfish so she will be chief supporter until triathlon pink at the end of the year. She already has 2 triathlons under her belt & enjoys taking part.

Well enjoy your week & remember COFFEE IS GOOD FOR YOU!!!!
