Bits and a lot of Bobs!

We are now post-marathon and the body is now comtemplating what it next on the horizon. For me personally the target will now become the City to Surf Marathon, a tough marathon but one they came onto the radar just last year. As marathons go, I think this course will be more suited to my size and frame, hilly for the second half, only the strong survive.

A few people have asked whether I was personally happy with the result and yes, I was. Just over 1 minute slower than my PB, but as the marathon is a long way, just ran out of legs in the last 5km. Over the last 6 months the distance has daunted me, so going through this race the focus was to stay mentally strong and I’m happy to stay it worked. (Plus I managed to keep my food down). It’s a little bit of a risk (would it be any different) to back up a marathon only 10 weeks after this one, but the body is feeling ok, albeit a little tired from the adventure a few days ago.

I must say a special thanks to Joe Cleasby, who paced for the first 24km of the event. It was great having him alongside as company through the early stages of the marathon even though he was experiencing pain the whole way. Fully fit he would have come the way!

Results for both the open and relay are now available and overall the team did a great job! Check out the list here:

  • Chris Letts – 3.02.29 – Not having completed the distance for the last 2 years he ran strong, albeit with around half a lung. He was crook for the last 2 weeks of his prep.
  • Mitch Cleasby – 3.08.25 – A PB by nearly 10mins, need more be said!
  • Tim Eva – 3.42.01 – Only a few weeks after the KEP, a solid time, given he started nearly 10mins behind everyone.
  • Mara Kroyer – 3.54.59 – Need we say about this woman! A great effort!
  • Joe Cleasby – 4.07.57 – Paced and then plagued with an injury, he continued to the line. A finish is a finish!

Relay

  • Break Your Limits Boys – 5th overall – 2.47.25
  • Mr & Mrs Break Your Limits (Mixed) – 11th Overall – 2.59.06
  • Break Your Limits Mixed – 19th overall – 3.06.30
  • Break Your Limits Girls – 71st overall – 3.39.07

As you would have seen from the phots (thanks to Tom) a great day was had by all. Thanks to all who came and supported, it definitely spurs you on seeing all those BYL shirts cheering and running around. Thanks to the drivers on the day, Farrell, Claudia and Carmela!

What’s next?

  • Never a dull moment for team BYL. Plans are in place for some to do the King of the Mountain run this weekend @ Helena Valley. A 16.1km journey uphill journey to Mundaring. A good solid run!
  • Ironman Bill – Resident BYL France man is tackling the notoriously tough Ironman France this Sunday (from 1pm Perth time).  More news to follow on this!
  • 4 July 2010 marks the Womens Classic, an event just for women! Choosing either a 5km or 10km loop it’s a fun filled event raising money for Breast Cancer Research.
  • Every Tuesday 6am – We are still meeting @ 2XU Subiaco every Tuesday morning for the BYL – 2XU run, so if you’re awake and even if you aren’t I encourage you to come along. Numbers are growing and it’s a greay to start your day!
  • Plans are in place for a biannual get-together to celebrate a few of the teams successes and the opening of BYL West Perth. Stay tuned for more details, but at this stage to be held on a Friday night in July!
