Well, the Olympics are on and there is a genuine excitement around the Break Your Limits headquarters. I was asked the other day which sport I like the most at the Winter Olympics and I would have to say the first thing that came to mind was the figure skating. No, I’m not trying to get in touch with my emotions but I do believe they are amongst the fittest people in the world and they do it all on a blade, about the size of a ruler.

My excitement nearly got the better of me the other day whilst running on the treadmill. Whilst watching Vancouver Gold the figure skating appeared and much to my delight I saw a few routines. Caught up in the moment as one of the skaters were flung into the air, I too jumped (unknowingly) and nearly took a spill off the back of the treadmill. Scared the heart a little but was happy nonetheless I stayed upright.

You would have read in earlier posts they was a slight mishap from the weekends racing. No, no one was injured but one the of the Break Your Limits teams entered transition earlier thanks to a miscount of laps or was it just a case of not going to the race briefing? You see, I am not allowed to comment about the incident as I have given my word but the song by Meatloaf, ‘Two out of three ain’t bad’ does spring to mind.

Team ‘Alistair’ won the Teams division for the race but unfortuantely the bottle of ‘red’ will have to keep for another race as not all teams crossed the line legitimately.

I’m glad to report the running legs are coming back and with just two weeks to go I am very thankful!

Til next time, Happy Counting and it’s off to practice some more of my moves.

  1. About the number of laps complete or (incomplete). I think an invention of some sort of device built into the bike would be good, like a mini abacus stretching across the handle bars.As you know its easy to miscount laps when so many people in lycra are whizzing by!Opps just forgot to push the bead across…..was that lap two or three….:)

  2. Raymond, who is Torvel & Dean again?

  3. Great idea about the abacus Nat, but given the risk of losing concentration as a result of all the lycra, I am reminded of boxing. In order for the boxers (and spectators) to know which round they are up to, there are girls who hold up boards with numbers on them. Should we see if we can arrange some number boards for the next event so that BYL team members know which “round” it is?

  4. Tom, how could you forget, the greatest skaters of all time..! Maybe that could be your next adventure after the Half, Tom & Mara…, it has a certain ring to it?

  5. Actually – I can imagine Ray in lycra and ice skating, well is it not such a great look.
